Staff Pen Portraits

Julie Banfield - retired from her position in psychological care at Kaiser, Julie can now devote her time to quiltmaking - a most wonderful thing for all of us. She has exhibited at New Pieces, and she has sold many of her quilts. Her love of Japanese art, and the art of dyeing and shibori makes her a great person to talk to at the shop.

Miranda Barton - graduated from UC Davis, taking time off to breathe, smile, and discover what's next for her, she has come "home" to New Pieces, a place she has frequented since she was 8. Her love of fabric, quilting and taking care of you add greatly to the New Pieces staff. She also makes a mean cup of coffee at the original Peet's in Walnut Square.
Hey, coffee and quilting - I can relate !!!

Becky, Julie and Karen
Carol Lee Blangsted - served as President and Program Chair of our local guild (EBHQ), Carol Lee loves the tradition of making quilts in all its many forms. She is known to us all as the Black and White guardian...and she has quite a collection of same. Books are her love and she orders and cares for them lovingly at New Pieces.

Here's Carol Lee, about to start her "Making Do" wonderful scrappy quilt.

Cindi Cossen - loves to experiment with any technique, old or new. Cindi is one of our teachers - from Beginning Quilting to Dyeing and Shibori to Fabric-covered Folders, Boxes and other Gift classes. Her quilts reflect her varied and unique interests.
She's our Saturday Sampler quilt teacher now for several years. You will love her relaxed energy.Cindy & Pat

Hilliary Creely - what do Boalt Hall Law school and New Pieces have in common? (no, not BOLTS of fabric!!!) We both have Hilliary working with us. She is a 2nd year law student at Boalt Hall, and a wonderful employee at our store. She's full of knowledge and excitement about colors, quilting and life.

Lisa Doyen - one of the nicest things about Lisa is that she quilts with her daughter. They can be seen with their heads together, selecting fabrics, pondering quilt difficulties, and in general, making sure the next generation of quilter is right around the corner.
Well, now that her daughter has moved, Lisa spends her non-quilting hours watching birds. She's seen birds we don't even know about. AND, Lisa is a topnotch quilter.

Karen Dugas - her work can be seen in Mary Mashuta's books, and she is a delight to be around. Karen is the heart of our group. She knows about life, from experience. Much of her artwork comes from her inner sight. She is the best quilt binder around, and she manages all our schedules, to make sure someone is ALWAYS there to work with you!!!

Sharona Fischrup - long time quilter, long arm quilter and new owner of New Pieces. She loves people and color. Through the community of quilters, Sharona sees the possibility of "community throughout the world." As quilters, we know what it takes to get the job done in making a quilt, now we just put that same joy and hard work into getting the world to work, one stitch/one person at a time.

Mary Anne Gayhartt - All around wonderful person. Mary Anne brings a wide range of experience to New Pieces. She is also one of our long-arm machine quilters. Mary Anne spends much of her year in her home in Montpelier, France! Her growing family (daughter Laura is growing the family) may keep her here longer than there, to our delight.

Laura Gottwald - exploring is Laura's middle name, that and getting your project to the next step. Laura spends her time sharing her love of quilting with us, and since she hand dyes and paints her own fabrics for her quilts she has lots of information to offer you.

Jane Herlihy - Loves color, quilting, people and organization...she has a knack for making things orderly.

Jessie Heying - recently joined New Pieces, after being one of our stellar students. Jessie loves all aspects of quilting, and she's a wiz at computer design...ask her about it.

Linda Jarvis - has returned to New Pieces, after many years-she worked with Carlberg many years ago. Now she quilts AND knits in her retirement( QUOTE UNQUOTE) days...shes busier than most of us...

Becky Keck - bright, colorful, talented Becky, loves to teach, help you with your colors, and scuba dive. Yup, she does this often. Becky also has had four outfits in the Fairfield Fashion Show, so she knows a thing or 2 about clothing and seaming AND quilt making.

Racine Linville - Transitions is a perfect descriptor for "Race". She has set out to explore the world of expression of grief and the quilting world. "Race" is with us now, bringing her love of all facets of quilting.

From paper piecing to clothing to handbags, she is a strong addition to the New Pieces crew.

Melissa Quilter - lives up to her name...come and ask about that...wonderful quilter in all respects. She is a phenomenon of speedy quilt making, and her real love comes in making quilts that raise money and when needed - soothe the heart.

Kathy Ritter - lover of the outdoors, Kathy has worked at New Pieces longer than anyone else, from the original owner (Carlberg), to Sally D., to me. She is an extraordinary long-arm quilter - creating incredible patterns for your quilt. Come in and say Hi!

Marcia Stein - loves detail and color and all manner of quilting. She has won many prizes for her work. She merges quilting with her photographic skills to produce wonderful images in fabric. Her quilts are often in the store for sale. Her website is http://www.marciastein.com.
