Sew Together Bag

Sew Together Bag

Taught by Alla Blanca

Saturday, September 26, 10 am to 4 pm, with lunch break

$45 for class; students must purchase pattern for $12

Do you love mixing fabrics? Do you need a way to organize the tools you bring with you when stitching or crafting away from home base? Are you avoiding any sewing project that includes zippers?

If you answer “yes” to any of the above questions, this is your class! We will sew step-by-step a zippered multi-purpose gear organizer bag. Fear of zippers will no longer hold you back. The bag features a clever exterior zip that doubles as a handle, 3 interior zipper pouches and 4 open pockets. When unzipped fully, the bag lays open for easy access to your tools and supplies.

Finished bag measures approximately 10” wide and 4½” tall.

Supplies list:

Sewing machine (bring along the machine’s manual if you are unfamiliar with zipper settings and options for stitching through many layers)

Basic piecing supplies (scissors, pins, thread, seam ripper, rotary cutter, ruler and mat)

Zipper foot to fit your sewing machine

Walking foot (recommended, but not mandatory)

Jeans needles for sewing machine (I like 100/16, but some prefer 90/14 size)

Binding clamps (optional; I like Clover Wonder Clips)

Erasable marking pen/pencil/chalk

Materials:

As listed in the pattern, you will need 1 fat quarter for the exterior, ½ yard for the lining, ⅓ yard for the interior of the zipper pouches, and 1 fat quarter for the binding

BUT, if you are choosing to make a scrappy bag, individual rectangle cutting dimensions are also listed in the pattern

½ yard lightweight fusible interfacing *

3 – 9” zippers *

1 – 18” zipper (up to a 24” zipper can be used; a longer zipper will require adjustments when cutting the binding, and will be covered in class)

* Instructor has the shorter zippers available for purchase, in a wide variety of colors, along with a kit of the fusible interfacing pre-cut to size

Date: 09/26/2015
